The update processes manage, among others, also the temporal aspects of data. These concepts therein are not domain specific but generic for all GI data. This chapter introduces the key concepts and principles, and explains:
- Feature level metadata ensure IT traceability over time
- the concept of data life cycles and feature state of currency
- the anomaly as vehicle to report discrepancies between data and reality
It is evident that MS would have already implemented many of these. This chapter on data structure is therefore merely informative and targets specifically the IT/GIS operator and system analyst. Feel free to skip this data structure chapter if you have no need for these technical details.
